Commissioning

Commissioning is the point at which a smoke control system should be shown to work as intended. It is also the last opportunity to resolve shortcomings before the contractor leaves site and the building relies on the system.

We attend occupied buildings, and buildings complete and in use, where smoke ventilation systems are being refurbished or replaced, and provide:

  • Periodic attendance during the works
  • Witnessing of system demonstrations, commissioning and acceptance testing
  • A written report of what was witnessed, on what date, and against whose design
  • Review of handover documents, commissioning certificates and O&M manuals, and close-out of outstanding items

Where a test does not demonstrate what is required, we record it and set out what remains outstanding, so that it can be resolved before handover is accepted.

A witnessing report records what we observed. It is not a certificate of compliance or an approval, and it does not verify the underlying design. We do not supervise works or instruct contractors.
